How to Serve Casamara Club: Ice, Glassware, and the Right Pour

People ask us how to serve these drinks more than they ask us anything else. Fair enough: we put years into what's in the can, and a few habits at the table get all of it out.

The short answer: Serve everything cold, in small, unfussy glassware, poured slowly and a little at a time. Ice is optional for the botanical sodas and standard for the Superclasico Aperitivo. Glass and garnish optional. The can or bottle stays on the table until it's finished.

The House Method

Four steps, the same ones we put on every bottle page:

  1. Start cold. Straight from the fridge, chilled at least two hours. That's where the flavor is sharpest.
  2. Pour a little. A small glass, a small pour. Ice and a garnish if you like; neither is required.
  3. Let it open. Give it a minute. As it warms, the aromatics bloom and the bitterness rounds out.
  4. Leave it on the table. Keep the can close and top off your own glass. It's made to be shared, and to last.

Pour slowly, and just a small amount, so it warms a touch in the glass and the aromatics bloom.

There are few greater pleasures than topping off your own drink, but one of the greater ones is to share. A single can or bottle can be enjoyed by one person alone, but always ask, "how many glasses should I bring?"

Ice or No Ice

Botanical sodas (Alta, Como, Onda, Sera, Isla, Fora): Ice is optional. They're carbonated and extra dry, and they drink beautifully straight from the fridge with no dilution. If you like ice, use it; large cubes melt slower.

Superclasico Aperitivo: Yes, ice. It's built full-flavored and bittersweet precisely so it can be served simply over ice, with an orange wheel if you have one. A rocks glass or a bodega cup both work.

The Serve, Flavor by Flavor

Drink Glass Garnish
Superclasico Aperitivo Rocks or bodega Orange wheel
Alta Rocks or highball Orange twist
Como Highball or picardie Orange twist
Onda Wine glass or rocks Lemon twist and/or a green olive
Sera Highball or wine glass Orange twist
Isla Highball or bodega Lime wedge and/or mint sprig
Fora Picardie or wine glass Lemon wedge

Garnish only if it genuinely improves the drink. Express citrus oils over the glass, rim it, drop it in. None of this is required; all of it is nice.

On glassware generally: the Duralex Picardie is the house recommendation, a tempered French café glass that works for everything on this page. "They look nice, but they're also made from a fairly durable tempered glass, so you don't have to worry so much about bringing them out for dinner parties." (That's me, quoted in Consumer Reports.)

Mixing with Spirits: The Highball Method

"Can I use this as a mixer?" We get the question often and the answer is yes. A highball shouldn't take labor, and we've already done that work for you.

Spirit and ice first, at the bottom of small, unfussy glassware, then the soda poured slowly down the wall of the glass, not directly over the ice. About three parts soda to one part spirit. Garnish with citrus. The can or bottle stays on the table so you can lengthen the pour as you go.

The pairings we reach for:

  • Alta + dry gin (or split with Campari)
  • Como + bourbon, blanco tequila, or blanc vermouth
  • Onda + mezcal, dry vermouth, or an herbaceous amaro
  • Sera + aged rum or rye whiskey
  • Isla + Jamaican rum, bourbon, or a dark amaro
  • Fora + rum agricole, Spanish blanco vermouth, or a fruit-forward gin
  • Superclasico + bourbon, dry gin, or aged rum

A Note on Pairing

When pairing drinks with food, you may find yourself getting lost searching for perfect complementary flavors. We urge you to stop. Taste is the far better guide. The balance of bitter, sweet, and tart in these drinks makes them versatile alongside any meal. But if you must know a secret: our Sicilian-style botanical soda, known as Onda, is excellent with linguine alle vongole.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should I serve Casamara Club on ice?

A: The Superclasico Aperitivo, yes: over ice in a rocks glass with an orange wheel. The six botanical sodas don't need ice; serve them cold from the refrigerator, with ice optional and large cubes preferred if you use it.

Q: What glass should I use?

A: Small and unfussy beats large and precious. A Duralex Picardie works for every flavor; Onda and Fora also love a wine glass, and Superclasico belongs in a rocks glass or bodega cup.

Q: How cold should it be?

A: Refrigerator-cold, chilled at least two hours. Pour a small amount at a time so the aromatics open as the glass warms slightly.

Q: Can I mix Casamara Club with alcohol?

A: Yes. Build a highball: spirit and ice first, soda poured slowly down the wall, about three parts soda to one part spirit, citrus garnish. Alta with dry gin and Isla with Jamaican rum are the house favorites.

Q: How many glasses does one bottle or can serve?

A: Poured the house way, a 12oz bottle or can comfortably serves two glasses at a time, topped off as you go. For parties, plan two drinks per guest for the first hour and one per hour after.
